Quayhog clams are very special to me and I will spare you all the details here but throughout the ages this clam has played a role in the lives of many along the Atlantic. This fossilized clam has calcite crystals growing on the inside. The holes you see were naturally formed and when you shine a flashlight inside the larger hole you can see all along the seam of the two halves there is a row of bursting, tiny calcite cyrstals. One of crystal clusters has broken off and has turned the clam into a rattle for when you shake it you can here the cluster rolling around. I have opened several of these, fairly easily with the right tools, and some have had lots of crystals and others have had nothing, kind of like a geode. This one tells us right away there are crystals inside because of the rattle and the tiny hole shows us some the inside crystals. **

**Disclaimer I am not a Geologist and only know things about the Ocean based on my own research, explorations and experiances and do not know everything about whats going on here. I could be wrong with some of the specific details but overall, I try my hardest to be as accurate and knowledgable as I can be.
